Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap for April 8, 2025

The Kern County Board of Supervisors met today as scheduled for Tuesday’s April 8, 2025, Board Meeting. Supervisor Jeff Flores (District 3), Supervisor David Couch (District 4), and Chairwoman Leticia Perez (District 5) were in attendance.  Supervisor Phillip Peters (District 1) and Supervisor Chris Parlier (District 2) were absent.  Meeting Highlights

Item No. 1 AM session:

The Board adopted a resolution honoring Tara Osborn, Animal Services Department, upon her retirement with 25 years of dedicated service to the County of Kern. You can watch the presentation here.

Item No. 2 AM session:

The Board adopted a resolution honoring Assistant Probation Division Director Jason Hillis upon his retirement with 27 years of dedicated service to the County of Kern.

Item No. 3 AM session:

The Board voted to proclaim April 2025 as Donate Life Awareness Month in Kern County. You can watch the presentation here.

Item No. 4 AM session:

The Board voted to proclaim April 2025 as Financial Literacy Month in Kern County. You can watch the presentation here.

Item No. 5 AM session:

The Board voted to proclaim April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Kern County. You can watch the presentation here.

Item No. 6 AM session:

The Board voted to proclaim April 13-19, 2025 as Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Kern County.

Item No. 21 AM session:

The Board approved a proposed agreement with Kern Community College District to provide learning experiences for interns in the Bakersfield College Human Services Program from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2030.

Item No. 28 AM session:

The Board approved a proposed resolution authorizing temporary closure of the Baker Branch Library Facility from Tuesday, May 6, 2025 through Monday, January 26, 2026 for life-safety and critical maintenance improvements.

Item No. 29 AM session:

The Board approved a proposed resolution authorizing temporary closure of the California City Branch Library Facility from Tuesday, May 13, 2025 through Monday, February 9, 2026 for life-safety and critical maintenance improvements.

Item No. 26 PM session:

The Board voted to approve proposed contributions to California State University Bakersfield Foundation, Kern Community Foundation, Fred Zulfa Memorial Scholarship Fund, Junior League of Bakersfield, Hellenic Community of St. George Orthodox Church, Bakersfield East Rotary Foundation in the amount of $500 each, and the Open Door Network in the amount of $1,000, to support various programs and community events.

The next Regular Board Meetings are scheduled for April 29, 2025, at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
